Lending a Hand, Building Community: AIL Team Volunteers at Amherst Survival Center
At AIL, community is at the heart of everything we do. It's about coming together, helping where we can, and supporting local organizations that make a difference. Recently, a few of our amazing maintenance team members—Ángel, Kelsey, and CJ—volunteered at the Amherst Survival Center to lend their time and expertise to help the local community. 🛠️🤝
The Amherst Survival Center has been uplifting residents of Franklin and Hampshire counties since 1976. It provides vital services like a food pantry, community meals, fresh food distribution, and support for those experiencing homelessness. Every year, they serve over 10,000 people, offering a safe and welcoming space where all are welcome, regardless of their circumstances.
How We Helped
Ángel, Kelsey, and CJ spent part of their day at the center assisting with repairs and offering their skills to help keep the space running smoothly. From fixing minor repairs to lending a hand wherever it was needed, they joined the incredible team of 250+ volunteers who ensure that the center operates seamlessly.
It’s part of AIL’s commitment to supporting organizations that truly make a difference in our community, and we couldn’t be more proud of our team for taking the time to volunteer. Their effort is a reminder that sometimes it’s the smallest acts of service that have the greatest impact.
Why the Amherst Survival Center Matters
Since 1976, the Amherst Survival Center has been a lifeline for individuals and families in need. The center’s programs offer essential support for people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and economic hardship. They provide:
A food pantry stocked with healthy, nutritious food
Daily community meals for anyone who needs them
Fresh food distribution for families
Showers and lockers for those without stable housing
Information & referral services connecting people with other community resources
Through its collaborative approach, the Survival Center serves as a one-stop shop for local resources, where anyone can come for help or simply feel like they belong.
A Volunteer-Powered Mission
Volunteers are the backbone of the Amherst Survival Center, and we’re proud to be a part of that network. With over 250 volunteers each week, the center continues to be a beacon of hope and support for those in need. From stocking pantry shelves to providing medical care, each volunteer plays a vital role in maintaining the center’s mission.
